Origin:Fujieda, Shizuoka, Japan

Description

Our Japanese Oolong is grown at Deai Nouen, by farmer Jun Watanabe. Deai Nouen are neighbors of the Sugimoto Tea Company headquarters in Shimada, Shizuoka, and over the years we have developed both a strong professional and personal relationship. We are thrilled to be able to offer this special Japanese Oolong grown by our good friends.

Deai Nouen has over a century of experience in tea cultivation, beginning in 1921. Located near the Ojiro River, in the semi-mountainous area of Shimada, the farm is blessed with several geographical features that provide it with favorable conditions for growing tea. The Ojiro River creates air currents and fog that bring moisture, which lingers in the air thanks to the surrounding mountains creating the perfect level of humidity for the growing tea plants. Deai Nouen pride themselves in their ability to utilize traditional farming techniques while continuing to research and test new farming methods.

This Oolong is a masterful blend of six different cultivars from the spring harvest. It has a floral and subtly sweet aroma, reminiscent of that of a high-mountain Taiwanese Oolong. It has a buttery mouthfeel accompanied by a light, jasmine taste with a hint of apricot.

Very nice Oolong Tea!

While I am fairly new to Japanese tea in general, I have had quite a bit of experience with various Oolong teas from Taiwan and China. I found This tea to be a pleasant experience that exhibited a complex taste of honey, fruit, and the slightest hint of smokiness that offered a well-balanced flavor profile that did not disappoint. It had a smooth and creamy mouthfeel and it held up well to multiple steeps. It is a very nice change of pace for someone wanting to try something new.

Japanese Oolong

After I brewed my first pot I immediately ordered 2 more packages. This ambrosial tea is refreshing, pleasantly floral, and lacks any sense of bitterness. I hope Sugimoto always has this in stock
