Description

Benifuuki can be translated to Red Riches and Honors. A cross between an existing Japanese black tea cultivar, Beni Homare, and a test cultivar from India’s Darjeeling region, it was originally produced for black tea productiion. However, when produced as a green tea it was found to help Japanese people with their seasonal allergies due to the presence of o-methylated catechins. As a sencha, it offers a sweet fragrance that’s heavy on shortbread with a hint of blooming flowers. The liquor itself is a spring green with a rich buttery mouthfeel and crisp finish. Expect a familiar grassy flavor and a welcomed note of honeysuckle.

This tea was grown on Gensen Farm in Kagoshima Prefecture. They have been producing organic teas since 2016. Their tea fields are located on mountain slopes with an average elevation of around 750 ft above sea level. On these slopes tea plants receive less daylight, which means they grow more slowly and are exposed to a little stress. The results of which are teas with a fuller aroma and fuller flavors.
