Origin:Kawane, Shizuoka, Japan

Also known as “Sakura Kaori” (“Cherry Blossom Aroma”), Shizu-7132 is a very unique cultivar with a special trait; it has a natural sweet aroma like sakura flowers. This comes from its naturally high levels of the aromatic organic compound “coumarin,” which is also present in high concentrations in Japanese cherry trees. Traditionally this trait has made it hard for Japanese tea makers to use this cultivar in their blends. Combined with it being difficult to cultivate and limited to being best suited for growing in mountainous areas, Shizu-7132 has never been officially registered as a cultivar and is only grown by a few passionate tea farmers in Shizuoka

The passionate farmer behind our Shizu-7132 is Fujita-san, who grows tea in the mountainous area of Kawane, Shizuoka, where many award-winning teas have also come from. His fields have an average elevation of 770 feet and is situated next to the Ooi River which provides plentiful water, nutrients, and morning fog for the tea plants.
