Chagara Furikake (Used Tea Leaf Seasoning)

Ingredients:

  • 6 tablespoons (30g) used tea leaves (chagara)
  • 2 tablespoons bonito flakes
  • 1 tablespoon white sesame seeds
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Remove Excess Water

Gently squeeze the used tea leaves to remove any excess moisture.

Step 2: Dry the Tea Leaves

Place the tea leaves in a dry frying pan over low to medium heat.
Roast for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until all the moisture has evaporated.

Step 3: Add Flavorings 

Add the bonito flakes and white sesame seeds to the pan.
Stir continuously over low heat to combine and lightly toast the ingredients.

Step 4: Season to Taste

Remove from heat and season with salt to taste.
